Afghanistan Emergency

Afghanistan Earthquake

A powerful earthquake has killed at least 920 people and left hundreds more injured in Afghanistan. The earthquake was magnitude 6.1 and at a depth of 51km. The quake struck about 44km (27 miles) from the south-eastern city of Khost shortly after 01:30 local time (21:00 Tuesday GMT), when many people were at home, asleep in their beds. Tremors were felt across more than 500km of Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. Witnesses reported feeling the quake in Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul, as well as Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad.

Afghanistan is prone to quakes, as it’s located in a tectonically active region, over a number of fault lines including the Chaman fault, the Hari Rud fault, the Central Badakhshan fault and the Darvaz fault.

In the past 10 years, more than 7,000 people have been killed in earthquakes in the country, the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reports.

Amongst those who are affected are children, widows, elderly and disabled. Hospitals have also been destroyed and medical assistance is scarce.

The One Nation team are doing an immediate response to this emergency providing hot meals, food packs, malnutrition packs, hygiene kits and water bottles.

One Nation will also look to help by building homes for those who have been displaced due to this natural disaster.

A Life Changing Situation

A year of uncertainty and distruption has led to around half a million people being displaced in Afghanistan. Many brothers and sisters living through the last 20 years of war, have now been left without any food, water or medical care. Known as the worst humanitarian crisis ever, children are the ones most at risk.

There are over 10 Million children in dire need of assistance. Without urgent action, over 1 million children could lose their life within the coming weeks. They need your help!

Through your donations, One Nation has been able to provide life-saving aid to millions of people in Afghanistan.  With the Covid-19 Pandemic still ongoing and reaching peak levels the health system has all but collapsed during the current crisis, meaning that those who fall seriously ill stand little chance of receiving intensive care.

Our efforts in this region can only continue with your ongoing support. Please look through the donation opportunities currently available in Afghanistan and do what you can to give the people of this land hope, not only of survival but also a future worth living for.

Importance of Your Donation

“Whoever relieves a believer’s distress of the distressful aspects of this world, Allah will rescue him from a difficulty of the difficulties of the Hereafter. Whoever alleviates [the situation of] one in dire straits who cannot repay his debt, Allah will alleviate his lot in both this world and in the Hereafter. Whoever conceals [the faults of] a Muslim, Allah will conceal [his faults] in this life and the Hereafter.
